The Peacegiver How Christ Offers to Heal Our Hearts and Homes by James L. Ferrell

This book is AMAZING!!!! It was a very quick read especially for a church book, but one of the most influential! He has explained the atonement in a way that makes complete sense to me, that I completely needed to know, and in a way I had never thought of! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider reading this book, and tell your friends about it! (The bigger ah-ha's for me came in the last chapter, so make sure to finish it)

Some of the quotes from this book that I thought were amazing are:

-Being mistreated is the most important condition of mortality, for eternity itself depends on how we view those who mistreat us.(pg33 p2)

-We sin when our hearts are sinful, no matter what we do on the surface. (pg51 p3)

-The lord provides a way for me to escape from my sin of sinning against a sinner (This is a general idea not a direct quote, taken from pg52 p2)

-The Lord offers to those who have been harmed or potentially harmed by the sins of others the help and sustenance they need to be made whole. (pg53 p1)

-This night in Gethsemane, the lord is taking upon himsef all of the specific chains that bind and lead you captive. As he takes upon himself the desire to argue with Carol (with anyone who has sinned against me), and then breaks free from it, he will provide the way for you to break free as well. Your rage, your disappointment, your despair-the Lord will overcome all tonight and forge for you a new heart-clean, pure, undefiled, free. (pg178 p1)

-When you hurt a body part, do you then get mad at the body part and hurt it more for giving you pain. NO, you nourish it and treat it and help it mend. This is what the savior does for us. We are part of his flesh, this is what we need to learn to do with others, especially those who are our own flesh (spouse, child, family members) (not a direct quote idea taken from pg181)

-For the took our infirmities-the infirmities of body and spirit- into his own body and spirit. We are one with him, not just metaphorically, but in actual fact. The scars man has given him bind us to his flesh for the eternities.
Having become one with us, he takes our pains as his pains. He Nourishes and cherishes us. And this he does to sanctify and cleanse us, that we should be made holy and without blemish, as we must be if we are to live with his spirit in mortality and swell with the Father in the eternities.
With Paul, I declare"'So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies'...Here is how you will know whether you are one with your Carol (or spouse): when, as you would for a limb or a joint, you cherish and nourish her when she is hurting. Do so, and you will feel nourished and cherished yourself. (italics added pg182 p7-pg183 p2)


This book was really amazing and I learned so much from it! These were just a few of the main ideas, I hope that they might inspire me to re-read them, and remember, and perhaps inspire others to try reading the book!
